Gareth, who began his policing career as a special constable with West Mercia Police in 2002, giving up his spare time as a volunteer to help keep the local community safe.
In 2005 he joined South Wales Police as a full-time police officer, in 2010 he returned to Herefordshire and served across the county before in 2011 he was promoted to Sergeant. He had a number of roles within West Mercia Police and spent the majority of his time as the neighbourhood policing sergeant for Hereford City. Then in 2019 he transferred to the Ministry of Defence Police and trained to become a Firearms Officer.
It was whilst he was working for the MOD police, he came across window cleaning. Gareth said
'I was working in the MOD police when friends and family complained to me that they were struggling to find a reliable and trustworthy window cleaner in the area. So after a lot of research, I bought the latest window cleaning equipment and began to clean my friends and families' windows on my days off'.
Soon Gareth's reputation had spread and he was getting requests from across Hereford to clean people's windows. Gareth said 'It wasn't long before I had built up quite a number of customers and I was having to turn new people away'. Then in 2025 Gareth had completed 20 years full time service in the police and was awarded his 20-year Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. 'It was once I had completed the milestone of 20 years full time in the police I thought to myself, why not give the window cleaning a go full time'.
So, Gareth made the transition from Police Officer to Window Cleaner.
“Since leaving the Police, the window cleaning has gone from strength to strength, I now have several hundred customers on my regular 4 weekly and 8 weekly rounds. I have brought many qualities with me from my time in the police, I am punctual, polite and always in uniform. I use a secure payment system to take payments after the work is complete, I believe in being reliable, diligent and I believe in getting it right first time for my customers.”
